IT'S FIG SEASON!!

My favorite time of year.....FIG Season 🌳

Figs are more than just Newtons.  If you've never had a fresh fig, you don't know what you are missing?

They are soft, sweet, melts in your mouth, and perfect to enjoy this time of year.  They should be enjoyed quickly after picking or buying since they have a short shelf life.  You can also freeze them if you have more than you can eat in a few days. 
There are many different varieties ranging in green to dark purple color and very sweet to a mild, floral flavor. 
Figs are at their peak during a pretty short window: July-October

  • Figs can be enjoyed eaten just as they are in all their glory right off the tree (MY FAVORITE WAY).  
  • You can grill them and top with honey and feta cheese for a more elegant but super easy snack 🍯
  • You can also make fig jam (I use my slow cooker for this) and spread on toasted bread like my: FIG BALSAMIC ARTISAN BREAD 
  • You can also add fresh figs into any baked dish......like....again......my: FIG BALSAMIC ARTISAN BREAD:   This bread is best enjoyed late Summer to early Fall to guarantee the maximum flavor of fresh figs balanced with sweet balsamic vinegar and fresh local honey with just a hint of spice.....a unique and interesting combo.......A Miss Maria favorite
In my previous home (where I had more land), I had a fig tree and had access to fresh figs any time I wanted.  Now, I support other local farmers and buy my figs from them at Farmers Markets.  You can get really good deals and the fruit is such better quality than anything you find in the store.

What is a Fluffernutter?? I MADE IT!

I did it!! 20 Day Challenge is successfully completed!!! Here is what I learned from this experience: You can do ANYTHING for 20 days! Eating real, whole foods all the time keeps you satisfied with more energy and feeling better about yourself. It forced me to eat better and be creative in getting the best nutrition into my body it gave me new, healthy recipes that I didn't know existed I will do this again....maybe a few times a year I am proud of myself 👏 While I am excited I completed the challenge, I will need to be careful in introducing certain foods back into my diet; sugars, etc.... I know I am going to limit my fried and processed foods if at all.......no real benefits to them.....with that said.....Where are the jelly beans????  If you know me, you know I love my Easter candy.....in moderation people....in moderation 🙌                                     ...
