IT'S APPLE SEASON
September is not just for Pumpkin Season π......it's also the start of Apple Season ππ
Apple Hill has been up and running for weeks now and I've gotten some fresh, delicious Gingergold Apples from there and there's so much to do with them. They are sweet and slightly tart with a spiciness added to them....hence the name: Gingergold

Apple Hill has been up and running for weeks now and I've gotten some fresh, delicious Gingergold Apples from there and there's so much to do with them. They are sweet and slightly tart with a spiciness added to them....hence the name: Gingergold
- You can eat them raw which is one of my favorite ways to enjoy this seasonal fruit
- You can bake them in the oven with warm fall spices stuffed with nuts and raisins
- You can put them into your favorite apple pie or crisp recipe. They hold up very well in baking
- You can bake them in your favorite bread recipe as I do in my Apple Cornbread
- But, probably my most favorite way to use up these unique apples is to make Apple Wine with them. ππ·
Making Apple Wine is so easy and fun to do. All you do is:
- Get a bottle of your favorite white wine or even an inexpensive one since we're going to be adding flavor to it and pour into pitcher
- Dice about 1-2 apples depending on size on place into pitcher ( I don't peel the apples since most of their nutrients is in the skin and I want all the benefits of the entire fruit)
- Put 1/2 tsp cinnamon and about 3 sugar (I use truvia) packets into pitcher and stir all ingredients together.
- Put in fridge and let steep. The longer it sits, the more concentrated the flavor and the better and stronger it will be. The ideal time to wait is a few weeks to a month but I can never wait that long so I usually start enjoying it in just a week's time.....if not sooner π
I love going to Apple Hill and relaxing in the beautiful scenery with a glass of their Apple Wine but when you want to enjoy from the comforts of your own home, this recipe does the trick!
If you want to try this variety (Gingergold) of apples but can't make it to Apple Hill, no worries.....many local farmers markets are selling them now.
Cheers to Apples and all the ways we can enjoy these delicious and nutritious treats π₯π
