FARMERS MARKET FINDS

Look at what's in season at the Farmers Market right now πŸ…

Every Tuesday, I spend part of my morning at the Roseville Farmers Market at the Fountains.
Here is what I found today:

  • Sugar Pumpkins
    • These pumpkins are the best pumpkins for baking because they are sweeter and when you roast them, the flesh is turns out very soft, not stringy, and easy to mash and add to all your baking needs.  I, of course, use them in my Pumpkin Dark Chocolate Breads/Muffins/Baked Donuts along with good dark chocolate. 🍫 When you use fresh, local ingredients, the quality and taste of your finished product is superior and you really taste the difference πŸ˜‹
  • Fresh Figs:
    • My all time favorite fruit is the FIG.  I love all types, colors, sizes, etc.....you name it, I'll love it!  It is the juiciest, sweetest, melt in your mouth fruit that I have tried...especially at it's peak. My favorite way to eat a fresh fig is to just eat it raw straight from the basket. However, my 2nd favorite way to enjoy fresh figs is to put them in my Fig Balsamic Artisan Bread/Rolls.  I use a combination of dried (adds sweetness without added sugar) figs and fresh (adds a fresh quality making for a more moist bread) figs.  This combination makes us unique and again, fresh local produce adds a depth of flavor and quality to the end product.
  • Grape Tomatoes:
    • I love these tomatoes πŸ…because they are small and sweet enough to eat whole just like grapes....hence, the name. They are such a great healthy snack.....but....what I'm going to use these tomatoes for is in my Tomato Basil Artisan Bread/Rolls πŸ…πŸŒΏ I cut in half and slow roast the tomatoes all day which brings out more of their natural sugars and flavors.  I then, add them to the dough where they add a burst of fresh but roasted flavor to this popular savory bread.  Stay tuned for more recent pics of the newest baked bread πŸ™Œ
There are so many Farmers Markets almost every day of the week with so many local farmers to choose from with so much more than just fruits and vegetables.
